Self-taught, Frederick Galiay improvises, writes and conducts a wide range of instrumental ensembles. An electro-acoustic composer, he is also a visual artist. On the electric bass, his playing modes are the result of extensive research into expanding the acoustic and timbral possibilities as well as the traditional scope of the instrument. His instrumental writing is unclassifiable and reflects the freedom with which he approaches creation. He regularly collaborates with the composers Kasper T. Toeplitz and Christian Zanési and has been setting up various projects for twenty years with musicians such as Jean-Sébastien Mariage, Edward Perraud and Jacques Di Donato. Frederick Galiay is defined by the poetry he writes, like the painting of Soulages, he knows how to melt and illuminate the darkest universes.
